Troubleshooting: Track Repeats and Then Stops

If My Media plays the same track more than once and then goes silent, or plays through a queue only to repeat it before stopping, one of the following causes is likely responsible.

Loop Mode is Enabled

My Media has a loop mode that repeats the current track. It is controlled by voice commands:

CommandEffect
Alexa, ask My Media to set looping onRepeat the current track continuously
Alexa, ask My Media to set looping offTurn off repeat

Say "Alexa, ask My Media to set looping off" to disable it, then try playing again.

Only One Track is Indexed for That Search

When you ask for a specific album, artist, or playlist and only one track matches, Alexa plays that track, finishes it, and falls silent. To diagnose this:

  1. In the My Media web console, go to Albums or Artists and confirm there are multiple tracks indexed for the item you requested.
  2. If tracks are missing, trigger a manual rescan from the Watch Folders page and wait for it to complete.
  3. Verify your audio files have consistent ID3 tags — all tracks on the same album should share the same Album and Artist values so they are grouped together.

Streaming Error Mid-Queue

A network interruption can cause the current stream to fail. Alexa may retry the same track from the beginning, which looks like a repeat, and then give up after a second failure.

  • Check the network connection between the Alexa device and the My Media server.
  • Ensure My Media is not behind a VPN that drops intermittently.
  • Open Settings → Logging in the My Media web console and check for stream errors while reproducing the issue.
  • If you are streaming externally, check that your port forwarding or cloud proxy configuration is stable. See External Access.

Alexa Only Plays One Track (Audiobook/Podcast Mode)

Some Alexa devices switch to single-track mode when they detect the content is non-music (e.g., a track tagged with the genre Audiobook, Spoken Word, or Podcast). In this mode Alexa plays the single track, loops it once for confirmation, and stops.

See How Does My Media Choose Audiobook vs Album? for how to fix incorrectly classified tracks.
